Since June of 2014, Wakefield Main Streets, Inc. has been working to promote downtown Wakefield as a vibrant, inviting destination by fostering historic preservation, economic renewal, and community involvement. This spring we are asking for your help on a very special project. Through the Patronicity crowdfunding program, we are looking to raise at least $29,000 in order to receive a matching grant of $29,000 from the MassDevelopment Commonwealth Places program. If we succeed in our goal, the funding will be used to add three elements to our downtown that were suggested in our community surveys:

First, we’ll be adding several pairs of benches in the downtown (Main Street between Lincoln Street and the Yale Ave) which will provide attractive and inviting places to sit and gather.

Second, we plan to provide year-round tree lighting to create a more inviting ambiance downtown and make the streets brighter and safer at night.

Third, we will install three “way-finding” kiosks that will provide centralized places for maps, business and community information, and event postings, and will encourage residents and visitors to explore businesses and places of interest when they visit the downtown.   The kiosks will be placed at the Wakefield Train Station near Albion Street and North Avenue, at the corner of Main and Albion Streets and at the corner of Salem, Church and Main Streets near the Lake, in order to attract lake walkers further into the center of town.

There are two ways to contribute. If you act quickly, you can sponsor an individual bench, tree, or kiosk, which would include a plaque recognizing your donation. Or you can simply contribute any amount of money to the general fund to help us reach our goal. With everyone’s cooperation, we’d have more than enough to cover the costs of this improvement project and take advantage of matching funds to help bring new life and vibrancy back to our downtown.

Please visit the link below for more details about the project, and to donate. Any amount is welcome and appreciated! Please also share this campaign with your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues and anyone else who would want to support this exciting effort. Wakefield Main Streets is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your generous donation may tax deductible.

Thank you!
