(Wakefield, MA) – Wakefield Main Streets, Inc. has launched a Patronicity crowdfunding program to raise $29,000 in an effort to receive a matching grant from the MassDevelopment Commonwealth Places program.
According to Wakefield Main Streets President Paul DiNocco, the funds will be used to purchase and install benches in the downtown area, provide year-round lighting on trees, and install wayfinding kiosks in three centralized locations to beautify the downtown area.
The group’s Board of Directors is asking the community’s help to raise funds for their efforts by contributing through the Patronicity crowdfunding program which began on April 5th and can be accessed at www.patronicity.com/project/revitalizing_downtown_wakefield_together#/. Local supporters will have until May 31st to contribute. If the Wakefield Main Streets program raises the required $29,000 by that date, the MassDevelopment Commonwealth Places will award a matching grant of $29,000.
Those who act quickly can sponsor an individual bench, a tree for lighting, or a kiosk, which will include a plaque acknowledging the donation. Others can contribute to the general fund to help reach the goal.
If the Wakefield Main Streets program receives the funding, several pairs of benches will be placed downtown, between Lincoln Street and Yale Avenue, to provide attractive and inviting places to gather and sit. Trees throughout the downtown area will be lit each evening to create a more inviting ambiance and to make the streets brighter and safer during the evening. Three wayfinding kiosks will provide centralized places for residents and visitors to get information about local events, community information, maps and information about places of interest. These kiosks will be placed at the train station near Albion Street and North Avenue; at the corner of Salem/Church and Main Streets near the Common; and at the corner of Main and Albion Streets.
“If each Wakefield household donated, we would meet our goal to fund the costs of this improvement project and be able to receive the matching grant to bring new life and vibrancy back to our downtown,” the group said.
Wakefield Main Streets, Inc. is a 501(c)3 working to establish and promote downtown Wakefield as a vibrant, inviting destination by fostering historic preservation, economic renewal, and community involvement.
